Learning Standards - Week of January 5
Math: In math, we will explain why fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n x a)(n x b) by using visual fraction models with attention to the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. We will use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions. We will work with denominators of 2,3,4,5,6,8,10, 12 and 100.
Reading: In reading, we will refer to details and examples from the text, when making inferences and drawing conclusions about characters. We will also describe in depth a character, setting, and event in a story, drawing on specific details in the text. We will also continue to read texts that are related to our theme of Working Together.
Language Arts: In language arts, we will correctly use relative adverbs (where, when, why)
Vocabulary: In vocabulary, we will use common, grade appropriate, Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of the word. This weeks base is: "inter" meaning between, among.
Social Studies: In social studies, we will describe why Maryland's industry and population change in the 1800's.
Health: In health, we will describe the basic structure and function of the human body.
